Teri Hatcher Biography
Teri Hatcher aka Susan Mayer in "Desperate Housewives" got to Hollywood because she was doing a favour for a friend.
She had studied acting at the US Conservatory Theatre but was planning to transfer to California Polytechnic Institute. She went to an Open Audition to support a friend who was very nervous and found herself ending up in Hollywood.
She joined the cast of the television "Love Boat" series in 1985 but one of her first jobs was as an NFL cheerleader for the San Francisco 49ers.
She was born in Palo Alto, California and she had a very troubled childhood. Sexually abused from the age of 5-years-old by the husband of her aunt Richard Hayes, she only spoke out publicly in March 2006.
Stone had continued to abuse children and in 2002 a 14-year-old committed suicide as a result of his molestation. Hatcher helped Santa Clara County Prosecutors secure an indictment against him and he pleaded guilty to four charges of child molestation and received a sentence of 14 years in prison. He died on August 19th 2008 of colon cancer having served six years.
Hatcher spoke openly to "Vanity Fair" Magazine because she said she was haunted by the thought of a 14-year-old shooting herself because of Stone's actions and she was afraid he would get away scot free.
She became a household name after she was cast as Susan Mayer in 2004 and it won her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and the Screenwriter's Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actress in a comedy series. She was also nominated for the Emmy for Outstanding Leading Actress in a comedy series but, lost out to fellow "Desperate Housewives" cast member Felicity Huffman.
In February 2008 Hatcher was sued by Hydroderm for Breach of Contract. They claimed that she had promoted the beauty products from other countries when she was under contract to them.
She insisted her promotion of City Lips Plumper had not affected her deal with Hydroderm and her attorney called the lawsuit "an unjustified and public assault on her good name." In the end the Los Angeles Judge moved the case to arbitration.
Hatcher has had a disastrous love life and she has been married twice. Her first husband was Marcus Leithold whom she married on June 4th 1988 but the marriage only lasted a year. On May 27th 1994 she married actor Jon Tenney and they had a daughter Emerson Rose who was born on November 10th 1997. The couple divorced in March 2003.
Despite saying she had not had a boyfriend since her divorce, her name has been linked to singer Michael Bolton, TV host Ryan Seacrest and actor George Clooney.
In 2007 she began dating actor Stephen Kaye who appeared in General Hospital but they split up in 2010 despite rumours that they were engaged.
In September 2010 she admitted her 75-yar-old mother was trying to find her a boyfriend. She went on a cruise and sent her daughter a picture of a tour guide she had dinner with in Dubrovnik. She told Hatcher he was available and undemanding but her daughter was not impressed, saying he looked about 12-years-old.
