Robert Pattinson Biography
Twilight star Robert Pattinson's life has been governed by fate.
If the English born actor had not joined the Barnes amateur theatre company he might never have become a professional thespian. He was spotted by an agent when he was appearing for them in Tess of the D'Urbervilles.
Had his mother Clare not worked for a modelling agency he might not have been snapped up to be a model when he was 12-years-old and if he had not been sacked by the Royal Court Theatre just before the UK Premiere of "The Woman Before" he would not have been cast as Cedric Diggory in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire."
He was just 9-years-old when he was booked to appear at the theatre in Sloane Square, famed for putting on controversial plays but they dismissed him just before the first night and he was replaced by Tom Riley.
Last but not least, he certainly would not have achieved Worldwide International Fame as Edward Cullen in "Twilight" if it had not been for Kristen Stewart.
Pattinson knew very little about the "Twilight" books and never thought of auditioning until he heard that Stewart was doing so. Keen to meet her as he had seen her work and had developed a crush on her, he went along as well.
They did a steamy audition and got the parts and have virtually been together as a couple ever since. But they kept their relationship under wraps until 2010 when he accidentally let it slip that they were an item at the party following the BAFTA Awards.
They are a very private couple but they have been seen out together more openly recently and they have bought a house together in West Hollywood.
In Brazil where they are filming the latest Twilight movie "Breaking Dawn" where Bella and Edward finally get married they are sharing a house together a short boat trip away from where the crew and rest of the cast are staying.
Stewart visited him on set in Europe earlier in the year when he was filming "Bel Ami". Based on the 1885 novel by Guy de Maupassant, Pattinson plays a Parisian journalist who gained power in the City by manipulating wealthy women and sleeping his way to the top.
He has some steamy sex scenes with actress Uma Thurman who plays Madeleine Forestier and also has to bed Christina Ricci.
In "Breaking Dawn" Pattinson and Stewart have some very rough sex scenes and he was visibly upset at seeing bruises being painted on her body.
In 2009 he presented the 81st Academy Awards and in 2008 and 2009 he was voted Number 1 in the "Handsomest Man in the World" poll.
His wax likeness at Madame Tussauds in London has received the most kisses from visitors in the last year.
His ambition is to produce a film. He said, "It would be so satisfying to turn up for work and not get into costume or make up. To stand behind the monitor and not even have the responsibility of the director."
