Jackie Evancho Biography

Despite now being a huge star in America the pint-sized 10-year-old Jackie Evancho is just a normal little girl looking forward to Christmas.

She wants some vampire teeth from Father Christmas as she is really into vampires but, these are not ordinary teeth. You put them in your mouth, just like the plastic ones you buy in fancy dress shops but these ones grow bigger when you push a lever with your tongue.

Evancho says Christmas is very normal in their household, "We do all the things normal kids do, one of the family traditions is to try to sneak a peak at Santa" she said. "We go to our grandma's house, have Christmas dinner and then go to bed and wait for Santa to come".

Just like Susan Boyle, Evancho sprang to fame from the American version of "Britain's Got Talent" The judges' hearts sank when a 10-year-old child walked on to the stage in a pretty pink dress and neatly bobbed hair, then she opened her mouth.

She sang the Puccini aria "O Mio Babbino Caro", in perfect pitch with the confidence and voice of someone three times her age. Her performance stunned the judges and got a standing ovation from the audience.

Judge Sharon Osbourne said, "I can't believe that from this tiny body came this huge mature voice that you have".

Piers Morgan, also on the panel, told her "That has to be one of the most astonishing performances that I've seen on America's Got Talent".

Evancho nearly did not compete at all. The producers were watching a special You Tube episode of the show and thought her performance was so stunning they wondered if it was genuine. Her lips seemed out of sync with her words, but she defied all the cynics when she belted out an al capello tune on the stage.

In the semi-final she looked just like a ballerina on a music box. Standing centre stage she wore a pretty blue dress and sang "Time to Say Goodbye".

The clear favourite to win, just like Susan Boyle she came runner-up in the competition but it did not mean curtains for the youngster.

She has released a music video of one of her favourite songs "Silent Night", off her Christmas album "O Holy Night". It sold 239,000 copies in the first week of release and reached number 2 behind Susan Boyle's Christmas disc "The Gift".

In the video Evancho is pictured against a simple white background wearing a red dress. There is fake snow and she is standing by a Christmas tree with her older brother Jacob.

She said "Making the video was really great fun but there was a lot of snow and it got in our mouths. But it was still a lot of fun, especially because Jacob was there to enjoy it with me. Usually my siblings don't get to come along while I'm working".

Evancho is the youngest ever solo artist to have a Top 10 album, "O Holy Night" went straight to the top of the classical chart and outsold new records from Rihanna, Kid Rock and Keith Urban.

At the end of November she teamed up with classical singer Katherine Jenkins to sing a duet, "Silent Night" at the Christmas tree lighting ceremony in New York. The pair wowed the audience at the city's Rockefeller Centre.
