Christina Aguilera Biography
When Christina Aguilera's Irish born Grandmother saw one of her videos she was shocked and immediately rang her daughter.
She said, "I was disappointed seeing the video, I nearly died when I saw that she was wearing so little. I rang her Mom and said Oh God what is Christina doing? I feel sad for her really, she is so young. I totally understand why people criticize her."
Aguilera was brought up in her grandmother's home in Pennsylvania when she moved there with her mother and younger sister after her parents divorced.
She was seven-years-old and had suffered emotional and physical abuse from her controlling father, a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, who was born in Ecuador.
He has since written to his daughter but she has refused to consider a reconciliation and sang about her troubled childhood in "I'm OK" on the album "Stripped," and "Oh Mother," on "Back to Basics."
Her first television appearance was in 1990 when she was a contestant on the "Star Search," programme and she went on to star in the Disney Channel television series "Mickey Mouse Club" 1993-94.
She was signed to RCA Records after recording "Reflection" the theme song for the animated film "Mulan" in 1988. She has won four Grammy Awards, a Latin Grammy Award plus numerous nominations.
In 1999 she was involved in a spat with Eminem over his song "The Real Slim Shady" in which he insinuated she was dating MTV VJ Carson Daly, who was also supposed to be romancing rocker Fred Durst. Aguilera said the lyrics were "disgusting, offensive and above all, not true."
Their feud ended two years later backstage at the Video Music Awards after Aguilera presented the rapper with an award on stage.
She dated Puerto Rican dancer Jorge Santos for two years and he appeared on her tour and music videos throughout 2000. They split up on September 11th 2001, but the split was amicable and he remained as her dancer well into 2002.
That year she started seeing music making executive Jordan Bratman and they announced their engagement in February 2005. They married in Napa Valley on November 19th 2005 and their son Max was born on January 12th 2008.
On September 11th 2010 the couple separated and she filed for divorce on October 14th. Neither of them have ever explained why they split up.
A month after the marriage ended she was seen leaving a West Hollywood nightclub with Matthew D. Rutler, a set assistant on her new film "Burlesque." There were photographs of them holding hands in several magazines and she was carrying a single red rose.
